The vision of the Community-Driven Institute, the home of this blog, is the vision of a healthy, compassionate, vibrant world.
The Institute’s mission is therefore to ensure the Community Benefit Sector has everything it needs to create that world. Our tag line - “Making Visionary Change Practical” - pretty much sums up our work. We accomplish our mission in a number of ways:
Convening: Bringing together everyone whose work is aimed at improving our communities - funders, service providers, consultants, nonprofit resource centers, and everyone in between. And about those service providers, we mean “everyone” as well - human services, arts groups, environmental, historic preservation groups. All disciplines, all levels - everyone.
Engaging: Encouraging everyone doing this work to feel the immense potential we have to create that amazing world, and to believe in that potential. And then further, engaging us all with each other!
Mobilizing: Encouraging everyone doing this work to take action to turn the “dream” of extraordinary communities into a reality.
Supporting: Ensuring we all have the tools and systems we need to make our world a healthy, compassionate, vibrant place for all.
And so the purpose of this blog is to do all of that!
Our intent is that the blog nurtures the assumption and the expectation that creating extraordinary communities - and a humane, vibrant, healthy, resilient world overall - is possible, simply because it is not impossible.

Our intent is also that the blog provide concrete tools to create that path - tools that work better than the frustratingly ineffective tools organizations have been encouraged to use in the past. The tools you find here will focus your work on the positive results you do want to create. These tools will not focus your work on “eliminating a negative condition” but will instead aim your work at “creating something extraordinary!”
